Take the Right Gear: Tips for Fall Camping
With fall foliage at its peak through October, it’s a great time of year to embark on a few more camping adventures before the snow flies. Camping in the fall is an exciting way to enjoy the beautiful scenery and take in the fresh, cool autumn air. If you’re ready to extend your camping season just a little bit longer, keep the following tips in mind before heading to your favorite spot.

Pack a Toiletry Kit
So you’re not reaching for individual personal care items scattered
throughout different bags, be sure to pack a convenient toiletry bag
with the essentials, including natural, plant-based gel deodorant,
natural toothpaste, mineral sunscreen, non-toxic bug repellent, and
other important items for you. Make a checklist so as not to forget
anything you might need. Also, try to bring along only body care
products that are environmentally friendly. “Leave no trace and do no
harm” is a good philosophy to live by, and it minimizes the impact on
our great outdoors.
Layer Up with a Variety of Clothing Options
It can be hot, cold, rainy, muddy, windy, or even snowy on fall camping
trips. Unpredictable weather is why layering is the key to staying
comfortable while camping during the fall months. You’ll want to pack
warm and breathable layers to wick away moisture and keep you dry. You
also need water- and wind-resistant outer layers. Think about bringing
long underwear, gloves or mittens, a beanie, an insulator mid layer, and
a hooded shell that protects you from the wind and rain.
Eat Hearty Meals
One of the most fun parts of camping is cooking your meals at your
campsite. Since it’s much cooler at this time of year, you’ll want to
prepare some warm and hearty one-pot meals and soups. Your meals will
fuel your body and muscles, keep you toastier through the night, and
warm your soul. Calories and comforting foods may help your physical and
mental state, too. For easy, non-toxic cleanup, bring along liquid castile soap, a wonderful multipurpose plant-based cleaner for surfaces, dishes, and hands.
Stay Dry in Your Tent
You’ll be a lot happier through the night if you set up your tent in an
area that’s more protected from the elements. Be sure to stake your
tent properly and always use the rain fly, which helps shelter you from
the wind and rain. Lay down a tarp or tent footprint before setting up
your tent. This will help prevent moisture from seeping in from the
bottom of your tent. In addition to your rain fly, you might also want
an extra tarp over it.

bites, blisters, sore muscles, and other ailments that can cause general
discomfort. You can find effective natural, plant-based portable salves
